Sivota
Sivota or Syvota in the region of Epirus is one of the most fascinating tourist resorts in Greece. Snuggled in green, with some of the most stunning beaches of the area and islets which create little fjords is considered as one of the most exotic destinations in Greece. Syvota is a heavenly place, famous for its laid-back ambiance and the magnificent surroundings. All around are hills blanketed by pine, cypress and olive, the trees in many places reaching the water’s edge. Sivota has in recent years become increasingly popular and so the village, harbour and beaches bustle with life over the summer months. Although now a thriving small resort, Sivota has managed to retain its Greek village character.
It is an ideal destination for all those who travel to western Greece and a stopover while sailing around the Ionian Sea. The village has a marina for yachts and sailing boats and a paved walkway along the waterfront, perfect for a nice stroll in the late evening. The quayside is an array with restaurants and tavernas to choose from, serving traditional dishes, fresh seafood and fish. Though the village is small, there is a variety of gift shops where you can buy souvenirs as a reminder of your trip or for your loved ones and various other shops, selling clothes, jewelry and accessories.
The town is rich in history and culture, having played a major role in many of Greece's historical moments. Nearby, you will find the tiny uninhabited islets of Mourtemeno, Mavro Oros, Agios Nikolaos as well as other smaller islets. Do not miss to visit the famous "Bella Vraka" beach, located on the islet of Mourtemeno. The gorgeous beach is reachable from Syvota via a short walk-through shallow water. Pisina (Swimming Pool) beach is equally beautiful but you can only reach by boat from the port of the village. Furthermore, there are several more remote and relaxing exotic beaches with emerald water to discover such as Mikri and Megali Ammos, Gallikos Molos and Zavia. Most beaches are organized, yet retaining their pristine and unspoiled nature.
Visiting Syvota, not only will you be thrilled to swim and indulge in water sports in the Ionian Sea, but you will also find exquisite historic attractions and get to visit Parga and the Ionian islands. The little town is just a short drive from the cosmopolitan town of Parga and is the starting point for many amazing boat trips to a number of Greek islands such as Paxos and Corfu. The charming village of Perdika is only seven miles away, is bursting with restaurants and offers spectacular views and marvelous sunsets.
Sivota is on the mainland of Greece along the west coast of the Ionian Sea, therefore is easily accessible from anywhere in mainland Greece. If you travel from abroad, the nearest airport is Aktio in Preveza. For those travelling by ferry from Italy, Igoumenitsa is approximately 30 minutes away. Syvota is a superb destination on Greek mainland blessed with unparalleled beauty which is definitely worth visiting if you are on this part of mainland Greece.
