Sagiada

Sagiada is a small fishing village in Thesprotia, Epirus. It is situated opposite the island of Corfu, and is the westernmost point of mainland Greece. To the north is Albania and to the south the port of Igoumenitsa, the gateway to Italy. The local population is engaged in fishing and the village itself is renowned for its traditional fish tavernas. Here you can find fresh fish cooked in several different ways as well as any kind of seafood. The village of Sagiada was founded after 1943 when people from Palia Sagiada (Old Sagiada) moved to the coast when their village was burnt down by the Germans. Today, Palia Sagiada is totally abandoned, but it is a nice place to visit in order to feel the vibe of the old deserted village, and to enjoy some magnificent views of the Ionian Sea and the coastline. Near Sagiada are the beaches of Strovili and Keramidi. Both are about 10 minutes’ drive from the village and easily accessible by car. In Sagiada, there are not many accommodation options, so if you want to explore the surrounding area, we would recommend to make an early booking or choose to stay in Filiates or Igoumenitsa which are the nearest towns. Sagiada is a very peaceful place to stay, ideal for a relaxing holiday.
