The Symi Festival has been held annually since 1995. It lasts for three months (from July to September) and takes place on the beautiful island of Symi in the Dodecanese, Greece. This festival which demonstrates the love for culture, takes place with the participation of many renowned and young Greek and foreign artists. The festival is based on the idea of voluntarism, so there is no entry ticket to attend the cultural events, and no payments for the artists. The Municipality of Symi covers all expenses including travel and accommodation expenses for all artists.
The festival includes many cultural events such as classical and musical concerts, dance, theater, cinema, literature evenings, conferences and many events for children. Most of the events take place in traditional building of the 17th, 18th, and 19th century, such as the famous mansion house of Chatziagapitos, the courtyard of Agios Ioannis and the famous monastery of Panormitis. The Symi Festival attracts people of all ages from all over the world who come to this enchanting island to combine culture with sun, sea and relaxation.
