Venetiko Lighthouse
Venetiko is a rugged, uninhabited islet in the southern part of the island of Chios, located in the Aegean Sea. It lies about 1.5 nautical miles south of Cape Masticho (or Oura), the southernmost point of Chios.
Lighthouse on Venetiko Islet
At the top of Venetiko stands a small automatic navigational lighthouse (beacon). Access is possible via a short 15-minute hiking trail on the southern side of the islet, where steps have been constructed to help with maintenance and access.
The lighthouse emits two flashes every 15 seconds and has a visibility range of approximately 12 nautical miles, guiding maritime traffic in this remote part of the Aegean.
A Protected Natura 2000 Wildlife Site
Venetiko is designated as part of the Natura 2000 ecological network, recognised as a Special Protection Area for the endangered Eleonora’s falcon (Falco eleonorae). The islet also serves as an important habitat for seabirds such as gulls and falcons.
