It is housed in an old neoclassical house by the Sakoulevas river and hosts a remarkable collection of more than 700 works, including paintings, sculptures, and engravings, donated by well-known Greek and foreign artists. Recently, its collection was enriched with a painting of El Greco donated by the National Gallery of Athens and 44 engravings from Florence. The museum’s collection consists of works by noted artists of the 20th century such as Rengos, Plakotaris, Mytaras, Kanakakis, Chalepas, Hatzikyriakos-Gikas, Grammatikopoulos, Papadakis etc. Its aim is to promote modern Greek art and culture, and to bring out and encourage the artistic talents of the young people of the region. On its premises, there is a library dedicated to the visual arts, an information archive and an atelier for young artists. Apart from the permanent collection, the museum organizes various other cultural events.
