Explore the Fascinating World of Fungi at the Mushroom Museum in Grevena
Grevena has a long tradition in wild mushroom collection. Cooking recipes, conservation techniques and beliefs are part of local history and folklore. In this region takes place the Panhellenic Mushroom Festival each year, and is located a museum dedicated exclusively to mushrooms. The Mushroom Museum was founded in 2011 by the Lavda Cultural Association in a traditional stone building, in the village of Lavda, Grevena. The museum is home to a wide collection of fresh and wild mushrooms in dried form. There are also mushroom sculptures integrated in showcases that resemble their natural environment. Information on all types of mushrooms is provided with the use of audiovisual material. The bibliography is rich and microscopic examination is also available. The audiovisual room can be used for seminars, educational presentations and as workshop, providing the opportunity to schools and other groups to enrich their knowledge regarding mushrooms and nature. The Museum is located in the village of Lavda, 32km southeast of Grevena. In the wider area is the Orliakas mountain, an area of special natural beauty, rich in flora and fauna, but mainly in mushrooms.
