Pounta beach
Pounta beach is a lovely sandy beach with crystal-clear blue waters, accross the island of Elafonisos. The narrow strait between the mainland and Elafonisos is a popular spot for windsurfers and sport lovers from all over the world. The beach itself is much quieter than other beaches in the area and ideal for families with young children because of the shallow and warm waters. Sand dunes and cedars occupy the full length of the beach but apart the cedars there no other trees for shade.
Snorkeling is great, so take your face mask and snorkel to enjoy the ruins of the submerged ancient city of Pavlopetri. You should also take your own drinks and food as there are no any facilities nearby. Pounta beach is one of the area’s most beautiful beaches and a good place to swim when the wind blows north. Just a short walk away is Lake Strongyli. The lake is a considerable wetland with rare migratory species. During spring you may see flamingos, reeds, mallards and the rare endangered species of sea cedar. The beach is located on the western edge of the port of Pounta where the ferries for Elafonisos leave.
