Relax on Platamonas Beach in the Shadow of the Iconic Castle
The beaches around Platamonas are sandy and some pebbly but all with fabulous view of Mount Olympus and the castle of Platamonas. There are plenty of cheap and more expensive restaurants to choose from and lots of beach bars and cafes that do service on the beach drinks and food. This whole area is very popular with Greeks and tourists from the Balkan countries going on holiday, mainly during July and August, so finding a sunbed can be hard. The waters are clear and calm enough to paddle or take a swim. These beaches are well protected from the wind, so, good for families with children. There are umbrellas and deck chairs for hire but also many with no charge if you buy drinks from the café that owns the beds. There are many hotels and camping grounds in the area too, just make sure you book ahead if you are planning on staying during peak season. Parking is difficult and you may need to park further away and walk, but if you get there early or later in the afternoon, you’ll probably find plenty of parking space. It is a nice place to visit with lots of shops and a nice location to take a stroll and swim or have a good Greek meal.
