Kavouropetres beach
On the eastern side of the Sithonia peninsula, there is a complex of small beaches with Portokali being the largest of them, known as Kavourotrypes. It is located about 22 kilometers southwest of Vourvourou and 6 kilometers north of Sarti. Small coves, hidden behind a dense pine forest, white-washed beaches, white rocks and crystal-clear turquoise waters compose a landscape of exotic beauty. The waters resemble to a swimming pool and the only human interventions are the impressive sculptures on the white rocks. Rocky, smooth formations that start from the shore and end at the sea, form small peninsulas while the pines reach the sea offering natural shade to visitors. Overlooking the peninsula of Mount Athos, this small earthly paradise enchants visitors. They are characterized by many as the Hawaii of Halkidiki and not unjustly.
Till a few years ago, Kavourotrypes was a secret paradise for wildlife campers and nudists. Nowadays, although the area has not been touristically developed, Kavourotrypes has been discovered by more people and is one of the most popular destinations during summer, gathering lots of people. At Portokali there is a beach bar and that part is organized with umbrellas and sunbeds. The other beaches of Kavourotrypes are a few hundred meters further on and are secluded. If you do not like crowds avoid to visit it during the peak summer season.
You will hardly find any road signs to Kavourotripes. Driving down the coastal road from Sarti heading towards Vourvorou and after passing the beach in Platanitsi there is a sign on the main road marked «beach bar Portokali» which leads to the bar located at the largest beach. This is an element that will help you. To reach the beach you have to follow a dirt road of about 350 m. and then walk on one of the forest paths.
