Aeakio Hill of Aegina

According to Pausanias this building was the tomb of Aeakos. It was in a prominent position in the city. There was an altar surrounded by a precinct with white stones and there were perennial olives. At the entrance of the enclosure were posters of the ambassadors of the Greek cities who had come to ask Aeakos to pray to Zeus to rain. These images were found in the excavations and were engraved on marble slabs. Welter places the Aeakio under the southwest corner opposite the Apollo temple on Kolona Hill.
