Monastery of Agios Nikolaos Lemonion

The Monastery of Agios Nikolaos '' Lemonion '' is located in the forest on the western slope of Stavros Mountain. Beside it there is the sanctuary of Agios Ioannis Kalivitis.

There is no explicit testimony to the year of the foundation of the Monastery. The year 1742, which appears below the base of the bell tower, may be the year of its foundation or renovation. The architecture of the church of Agios Nikolaos is a one-aisled basilica.

The temple is built of common stones. The entrance to the temple is made of two doors. The interior of the temple is simply decorated.

The small colored crosses and stars decorating the dome are works by Nikolaos Andrianos, son and pupil of Salamina hagiographer Dimitrios Andrianos.

In the monastery, four portable icons are saved in the iconostasis: St. Nicolas, Virgin Mary, Christ and Agios Ioannis, works of all the Athenian painter Ioannis Athanasius (18th century). Also, the small icons of the twelfth are preserved, as well as the portable image of the Great High Priest on the south wall of the Catholic.

During the Ottoman domination and the rebellion of 1821, the thriving Monastery of Agios Nikolaos was the place of refuge and hospitality of the persecuted by the Turks.

Her activity exhausted it and dejected her. But in 1833 the newly established Greek state, by the Royal Decree, not only did not recognize the offer of the monastery, but decided to dissolve it and sell its property.

Until 1966 the monastery was completely abandoned. Since 1966, the Monastery has been re-founded, which is still in operation.
