The Aqueduct Bridge in the Erkynas Gorge, Livadia
The Trichino bridge is part of the aqueduct, located in the gorge of Erkyna, southwest of the medieval castle of Livadia. The bridge connects the two sides of the gorge and the groove passes over it. In some parts the clay pipes are preserved, as well as the hydraulic mortar for tightness.
A network of clay pipes, supported on retaining walls, provided the required slope for the constant flow of the water. The bridge consists of a central very thin arch (arch) and two arched openings (the western one is pointed, Islamic). The main building material is the local limestone.
The construction of the bridge is placed in the early Ottoman period (15th-16th century) and its repair in the late Ottoman times (17th-18th century). It was built for the water supply of the castle of Livadia. A network of clay pipes, placed in a rectangular groove, carried water from the springs of Saint Seraphim to the east of the gorge of Erkyna, and through the bridge, to the tanks of the castle.
