Zelios Gi Botanical Garden

“Γη” in Greek means land, earth, soil. Zelios Gi is a superb Botanical Garden nestling in the hills and olive groves. A piece of land has extensively been planted by the Zelios family and transformed into a beautiful botanical garden with over 3,500 plants, amongst them some rare species of Greek flora. This beautiful garden is located in northwest of Gavrolimni, midway between the picturesque town of Nafpaktos and the historical town of Messolonghi. The botanical garden is just a 15-minute drive from the impressive Rio-Antirio Bridge “Charilaos Trikoupis” and access is easy.

The garden covers an area of more than 25 acres (10 hectares) and is made of six different thematic gardens. It includes aromatic, medicinal, flavoring herbs, common and rare species of Greek flora as well as horticultural crops. All the plants have signs with information on their identity and origin as well as QR codes providing further information. Apart from plants, the garden is also home to about 60 deer. Visitors have the chance to feed the deer with food providing from the supervisor team at the entrance. In the heart of the garden is the so-called “Glass-Tower” made of 12,000 bottles. The tower has two floors and the floors are made of glass so visitors can see through. The tower is illuminated at night creating a unique spectacle.

Within the garden, there is a coffee shop, a recreation area and an e-shop where you can buy quality hand made products, made of raw materials from the garden. The garden has an educational character and is visited by many schools from all over Greece. Here, you can become familiar with the different species of plants, learn the process of planting and how to respect nature. There are also workshops where you can take part in pottery and metal casting classes. Visiting this Botanical Garden is definitely a unique experience, highly recommended even to non-gardeners or botanists.
