Megisti - Palaiokastro - Agios GeorgiosMonastery - Megisti
The path starts from the main road and goes all the way to Palaiokastro. It is a fairly uphill route leading to the highest point on the island with great views all around. In Palaiokastro, you can make a stop to see the ancient castle with the walls, the ruined towers and houses, the ancient cisterns and the beautiful chapels. After a short tour, take the path that leads to the Monastery of Agios Georgios. All the way has sparse vegetation of shrubs, and a few scattered trees that can provide some shade on a hot summer day. On arriving in that historic monastery, it is worth visiting the catacombs under the church. The entrance is a bit narrow but it is worthwhile. To return to Megisti, take the well-signed path behind the monastery. The path shortly ends and 400 steps descend to the village. From that point the view of the village, the surrounding islands and the coast of Asia Minor, is really stunning.
