Wreck «Portugal»
It is a cargo ship under the flag of Belgium carrying minerals Cotton and Corn. On 4/10/1957 it sailed from Lavrio to Mytilene, crashed into Trypiti Reef (northwest of Macronissos) and sank in two parts. The first part is submerged at the point where the ship crashed, at a maximum depth of 40 meters. The second part of the ship "sailed" for a short time before sinking to its present location, in the area of Agios Georgios Macronissos.
The remnants of PORTUGAL lie on a sloping bottom of 24 to 32 meters, about two hundred meters west of Macronissos. Propeller, axle and engine have been removed from the wreck. The bow is facing north, offering an excellent dive spot on the south side of the Tripiti reef.
