Traditional House of Kalymnos
The Traditional House of Kalymnos is a private folklore museum founded by Mrs. Skilla - Chalkidi Faneromeni. The aim of the museum is to show off aspects of old Kalymnian life through collections that include daily useful objects and household items of the traditional urban house of Kalymnos from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. Exhibits also includes traditional costumes, bridal dresses, books, letters, weapons, swords and photographs. The museum gives a good feel to what life was like in Kalymnos in terms of significant daily activities, social events and the life of the sponge divers.
Mrs. Faneromeni managed to collect all these household items from all over the island of Kalymnos, to record stories, experiences, knowledge and to present them through this very remarkable collection. The museum is housed in a renovated house, conveniently located next to the Agios Savvas Monastery, at Vothini area. A visit to the Folk Museum is a trip back in time. There is also a gift shop that offers local herbs, spices, essential oils, crafts, and cosmetic products made right here.
The museum is open daily. For more information about the opening hours, please contact the museum.
