Sarakiniko beach
If there's one beach that everyone wants to visit when spending time on the Greek island of Milos, it's Sarakiniko beach. Sarakiniko is the most popular beach in the island and is located in the northern part, on the road to Apollonia.
The picturesque “moonscape” beach is a stunner and it's become an Instagram darling. Its chalky white, moon-like surface is one of the many features of Sarakiniko that makes this unique location so popular. It is not your typical beach with a long stretch of sand but rather a small inlet with shallow waters. The color of the water at Sarakiniko is a wonderful shade of blue and the perfect spot for a relaxing swim.
Along the coastline to the east of Sarakiniko beach you can find the famous Sarakiniko Shipwreck. An old tanker ship that crashed into the rocks during a storm in 2003 and has since become a popular tourist attraction. If it’s not too windy and the ocean is calm, the Sarakiniko Shipwreck is one of the best spots to snorkel in Milos.
Last but not least, be sure to check out the abandoned mining tunnels that are dug into the sides of the valley leading down to Sarakiniko Beach. Sarakiniko beach overlooks Sifnos and Kimolos. Avoid visiting this beach when a strong north wind is blowing. There is a canteen in the parking lot.
