Mikri Vigla beach
Undoubtedly one of the best beaches in Naxos. A large, beautiful golden sand beach with crystal clear turquoise water on the south west side of Naxos (just further south from Plaka beach). This part of the island is more rural and you will find quite a few dirt roads which give you access to the beaches. Do not be concerned about the road conditions. They are perfectly fine. Mikri Vigla beach goes for miles, and swimming here is awesome. The water is so clear that you can see the fish. You can see catamarans stop by off the coast and have people enjoy the beautiful blue waters, but it is also a great place to watch kite surfers show off their skills.
This incredibly beautiful beach consists of two wonderful sandy beaches separated by an impressive hill. The northern part, known as Parthenos, is a good place for wind and kite surfers as winds tends to hit this beach, while the south part is sheltered by the headland and has calm waters, therefore it is children friendly and perfect for non-experienced swimmers. This part is an endless sandy beach (also called Sahara or Limanakia) with amazing crystal clear and turquoise waters with coarse sand which shelves gently into the water. The color and clarity of the water here has to be seen to be believed and there is some good snorkeling around the rock and a small inlet/cove which is accessible from the sea. It also offers interesting rock formations from which to jump off into the aqua water. Overall, it is a great place to go when the wind is blowing hard on the beaches to the north, also nice for long walks. The beach rarely gets packed, even in the peak months.
The corner where the big rock is, is a very nice spot to stay and enjoy the beach and lovely sunsets. Parts of the beach are equipped with umbrellas and sun beds, but there are also free parts to lay down your own towel. A couple of taverns and a market for snacks and water are close by. Mikri Vigla beach is about 25 min drive down the coast from the main town. The drive is beautiful along the coast and through the local villages.
