Canal D' Amour
Canal d’amour is probably the most famous and picturesque beach on the island of Corfu. An area of natural beauty with interesting rock formations in the sea. There are cliffs to sunbathe on or jump off into the sea, lots of nice hidden coves to swim and shallow caves to explore, all with stunning views. The main beach lies between sculpted sandstone rocks which form a natural fjord-like canal. The canal is rich in deposits of clay, that boast detoxifying and healing properties. Many people choose to sit on the rocks, spreading clay all over their body and face for a natural mud bath. Along the canal, created by the corrosive effect of the water and winds, you can find small lagoons and exquisite caves, ideal for exploration and snorkeling. All with clear, turquoise waters. Among them, a nice little cave which you could swim through.
According to local legend, couples who swim the length of the canal will stay in love forever, while those who swim to its furthest tip will find the love of their life. Others believe that if they just toss a coin into its waters, they will experience true love. Canal d’amour does get very busy at times during the day but it is nice and quiet in the evening.
It is situated on the northern coasts of the island, between the villages Sidari and Peroulades, about 32 kilometers from the city of Corfu. Access to the Channel of Love is easy. By car you can get very close to the beach. Nearby, you can find several restaurants and bars. The Canal d'amour itself is stunning, a dream for all the photographers and Instagramers out there.
