Paleokastritsa beach

Paleokastritsa comprises a number of lovely bays and coves with nice little beaches, surrounded by imposing scenery all around. The views are superb. The water is crystal-clear in all shades of blue. It is still cold, but that is a mercy in the heat. Near the car park, there are two beaches, a pebbled one and a smaller beach area on the far side of the car park which is actually more sandy. Both are good for swimming and you can also catch a boat trip out to the sea caves. There is lots of sealife to see so they are good for snorkeling too. The Corfu Aquarium is alongside the car park and the Monastery of the Virgin just a short hike up the cliff. Water sports are available, pedalo and boat hiring too if you want to explore the bay. There are some more private beaches in the area accessible only by boat.

Palaiokastritsa is extremely overcrowded July and August, but even in September. Most of the beach is filled up with beach chairs so if you want to use your own towel and umbrella there is no much space. If you like hustle and bustle and being around other people then this is for sure a place for you, if not, plan to visit Palaiokastritsa off season. There are plenty of restaurants, tavernas, bars and cafes in the area, many with wonderful views. Access is easy with lots of buses to run from Corfu Town to Palaiokastritsa during the day. If you go by car, there is a car park to leave your car, but if you arrive late, you won’t probably find any free space. Overall, Palaiokastritsa is a great place to spend the day and definitely worth a trip from anywhere on the island.
