Kamili Waterfall

The Kamilis Waterfall is one of the most impressive natural attractions in Epirus, located near the mountain village of Matsouki, in the Ioannina region. With a dramatic drop of 42 meters, the waterfall forms just below the village and can be seen from the road—however, access is only possible by hiking through the gorge, making it a rewarding destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

The waterfall is fed by four to five natural springs located above the village. After merging, the waters flow through the gorge and create a series of eight waterfalls. The largest and most powerful of them is Kamilis Waterfall itself, which maintains a strong water flow even during the summer months, a rarity in Greece.

Hiking Route to Kamilis Waterfall

The hike begins at the stone bridge of Stafylo (Stafylas Bridge). Before reaching the bridge, a dirt road leads down to the stream. From there, hikers follow the watercourse upstream, walking against the flow of the river.

The route is considered low to moderate in difficulty, but extra caution is required at certain points. In some sections, you’ll need to climb over slippery rocks, and there is a potential risk of falling stones from the steep sides of the gorge. For this reason, wearing a helmet is strongly recommended, especially after rainfall or during periods of high water flow.

There is no trail signage or fixed ropes along the route, so the hike requires basic outdoor experience and attention. At the end of the gorge, the waterfall suddenly reveals itself, plunging into a natural pool, creating a striking and refreshing scene surrounded by wild, unspoiled nature
