Klifkis Waterfall

Nestled in the untouched wilderness of the Athamanian Mountains (Tzoumerka), Klifkis Waterfall is one of Epirus’ most stunning natural wonders. Located near the village of Kalenzi (ancient Ekali) in the Ioannina region, this hidden treasure captivates visitors with its breathtaking beauty and serene atmosphere.

A Natural Wonder with Crystal-Clear Waters

Fed by an underground river emerging from a cave and merging with streams from the Basdeki Gorge, the waterfall plunges from a height of 47 meters, forming a natural pool at its base—an inviting spot for adventurous visitors to take a refreshing dip in its cool, crystal-clear waters.

How to Get There

The journey to Klifki Waterfall starts in the village of Kalenzi. A well-maintained road winds its way to a parking area near the Klifki region, where a scenic forest trail begins. The descent takes around 30 minutes, but the return hike is more demanding, requiring good physical fitness. As some sections are steep, sturdy hiking shoes are strongly recommended. Along the way, two wooden kiosks provide perfect spots to rest and take in the magnificent views.

A Serene Nature Escape

Beside the waterfall, a designated picnic area with benches provides the perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature. For those eager to explore further, another hiking trail from the same point leads to the banks of the Arachthos River.

Best Time to Visit

The best seasons to experience Klifki Waterfall are spring and autumn, when the water flow is at its strongest. During summer, the waterfall may dry up, but the scenic surroundings remain spectacular. If you’re searching for an off-the-beaten-path destination, Klifki Waterfall promises a magical escape filled with stunning landscapes, tranquility, and a deep connection to nature in the heart of Tzoumerka.
