Gravia Inn (Hani of Gravia)

The Gravia Inn (Hani of Gravia) is one of the most important historical sites in Central Greece, known for the pivotal Battle of Gravia in 1821. Here, a small group of Greek fighters led by Odysseas Androutsos held off a much larger Ottoman army under Omer Vryonis, achieving a strategic victory early in the Greek War of Independence.

Despite being heavily outnumbered, just 117 men defended the inn and managed to delay the Ottoman advance toward the Peloponnese—buying crucial time for the Greek forces and boosting morale during a critical phase of the revolution.

Visiting Gravia Inn Today

The site is located in the village of Gravia, opposite the Church of Agios Athanasios. The current building is a reconstruction of the original inn and now operates as a small museum, where visitors can learn about the battle through exhibits and presentations.

Outside, you’ll find a monument dedicated to Odysseas Androutsos and the fighters who took part in this heroic stand.
