Salamis is the largest island of the Saronic Gulf. It sits just off the port of Piraeus and its close proximity to Athens makes it an ideal destination for a day trip.
From Perama Port
There is no direct connection from Athens to Salamina, however it is incredibly easy to get to the island. Basically, you need to get to the port of Perama which is west of the port of Piraeus and then catch a ferry to Paloukia. Paloukia is the main port of Salamis and is located at the eastern part of the island, next to the naval base of the Hellenic Navy. The port in Perama is approximately 20 minutes from the port of Piraeus by car and 45 minutes by bus (841, 842 and 843). The ferry ride from Perama to Salamis takes less than 15 minutes. The route is operated 24/7 with ferry departures every 15,20 or 30 minutes. Passenger tickets from Perama to Salamina are cheap and cost around one euro. The ticket for a car costs around 6 euros and for a motorcycle around 1 euro. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket offices at the port of Perama. There is no need to book a ticket in advance, therefore there is no an online booking system.
From Piraeus
If you travel without a car, there is no need to travel to Perama, you can take a boat from Piraeus port. The route is served by small boats and the journey trip lasts 45 minutes. Those boats run every 30 minutes but they do not transfer cars.
From Megara
You can also travel to Salamina from the port of Megara by ferry every 30 minutes. Megara lies opposite the island of Salamis on the way to Corinth.
