Museum of Illusions: Have a Mind-Bending Fun in Athens
In this museum you will enjoy the opportunity to re discover your inner child curiosity and fun. This is really a fun museum and well worth looking for because it is not easy to find. The illusions are often delightful and there are helpful guides to help you to get the most out of this "fun house". There are enough areas to keep you interested. The museum is the right size (not too big, not too small) and is full of engaging and interactive installations, each one presenting a different illusion. The collection is playful and leaves a lasting impression. Starting from identical length lines whose different endings trick the brain into thinking one is longer than the other, through various perspective tricks that seemingly make someone much taller or shorter than in real life, all the way through various tricks with the mirrors like the head on the plate. The museum is interactive and there is clear signage in Greek and English.
The Museum of Illusions is located right in the heart of the Monastriaki neighborhood where there's lots of shopping and restaurants. Also close to the ancient Agora and the weekly market, so ideal if you have got an hour or two to kill while you are in that area. The number of people who go in is limited at a time and limit the time you spend inside so it does not get overcrowded. You can book a ticket online, or get one at the entrance. This little museum is an attraction for all ages, especially for families. Super fun way to spend an hour in Athens and definitely a place we would recommend to anyone of any age. Do not miss to visit the little gift shop with puzzles and games to purchase. It has a nice selection of puzzle available to try before purchase.
