Asklipio of Skopelos
Among the important sanctuaries of the city of Peferitos is the Asklepieion, on the southeastern side of the bay of Skopelos, at the location "Livadi - Ambelia", which was identified thanks to the finding of an inscribed base of dedication dedicated to Asclepius. In 1961, the walls of ancient buildings were first revealed in the area, but in a few years they were destroyed by the sea. More recent excavations at the same location brought to light an extensive building complex whose location and various movable finds, including a seal with the inscription ASKL in a shell, suggest that it is a sanctuary of Asclepius. Asklipio of Skopelos is considered the oldest in the Aegean. The archaeological excavation has so far revealed amphoras, red-figure attic vases, fragments of statues and clay figurines and coins that date back to the sanctuary from the 4th century. until Hellenistic times. Based on these findings, it appears that holy and other gods were annexed over time to the main sanctuary. In the archaeological site of Asclepius, a gazebo has been recently created, where a small number of finds are displayed for visitors.
