Rafalias Pharmacy
Rafalias Pharmacy is housed in a splendid listed mansion in the Old Town. It is more than a century old and one of the most famous pharmacies in the world, without exaggeration, as it still operates until today. It was established in 1890 by the founder, Evangelos Rafalias. It was then passed onto Kiriaki Yiannoukaou-Rafalia (1914-2011) –wife of the son of Andreas- who was one of the first women pharmacists in the middle of the last century. Her son, Evangelos, took over in 1978 and continued the family tradition. The dedication and love for what they did still exist to this day, improving the business. A typical example lies in the fact that when some of his mother’s cosmetic recipes were "discovered" in her diary, he decided to seriously take up the preparation and continue her legacy. Now, cologne, creams, lotions, soap and a whole host of other quality cosmetics are available in elegant packaging, which are also supplied to other shops on Hydra.
