Rhodes Town
Set on the northern tip of Rhodes, Rhodes Town is divided into two distinct and very different sections – a well preserved medieval town that was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco and a modern Mediterranean resort with decent beaches, boutique shops, luxury hotels, traditional tavernas, restaurants and contemporary bars.
The Old Town is sealed behind a double ring of high walls and takes you back to Medieval days, thanks to some heritage sights. Built by the Knights of St. John, the old city receives a huge daily number of day-trippers and is probably the most popular part of the town.
The perfect place to start exploring the modern part of the town is Mandraki harbor. On one side, you will also see the three medieval windmills and the fort of St. Nicholas. Numerous monumental building surrounding Mandraki add to its majestic air - among others the New Market, the Town Hall, the Government House and the Post Office. There are some other places to visit like the Rodini Park which is situated 3km away from the city, the Aquarium and the ancient acropolis of Rhodes which dominates the highest part of the city. The modern town is full of beautiful parks, nice squares and paved roads and visitors can find all kind of shops and many accommodation options.
When the tour ends, head to the cosmopolitan Elli beach on the northern edge of the city. Elli is a curving shingle beach about 400 meters long with lots of beach bars and restaurant right on hand.
