Legends & Myths

Local folklore tells of two dragons who once lived in the Dragon Lakes of Mount Tymfi and Mount Smolikas. These dragons were enemies, and whenever they fought, they hurled stones at each other. According to legend, this explains why the lakeshore of Mount Smolikas Dragon Lake is white with scattered black stones, while the lakeshore of Mount Tymfi Dragon Lake is black with scattered white stones.
