The small traditional village of Finikia is located on the north part of Santorini, 10 kilometers northwest of the capital Fira, only a few minutes away from the breathtaking Oia. In Finikia lived the farmers who worked in the valley and vineyards, but also the captains of Oia had their summer homes and canavas there. The canavas are cave storages where old winemakers transported the grapes after harvest. Most canavas are dome-shaped and are shaped into a volcanic material, the so-called "aspa".

Finikia is sculptured into the banks of the torrent, comprising mainly of colorful traditional Cycladic homes, courtyards with colorful bougainvillea’s, narrow cobblestone pathways and beautiful churches overlooking the Aegean Sea. It is one of the few villages on the island that epitomizes true Santorinian living in a spot oozing with tranquility and unique, colorful architecture.  There are not many hotels, and very few homes offer accommodation.

In the center of the village, stands the church of Agia Matrona built in 1859 with its magnificent iconostasis and from its yard you can gaze an unforgettable view. The church celebrates on October 20th, day that one of the most important festivals of the island takes place. It is also worth visiting the church of Agia Kyriaki, Agios Konstantinos and walk up to Kyra-Panagia, from where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset. From Finikia you can explore the appealing beaches of the northeast coast, like Baxedes and Paradisos. In the surrounding area there are many wineries where you can try delicious wine from various grape varieties while gazing at the Aegean.
