Dadia Forest National Park

Dadia Forest National Park is one of the most important protected nature reserves in Greece and one of Europe's premier destinations for birdwatching and wildlife photography. Located near Soufli in the Evros region, this remarkable forest is internationally renowned for its rich biodiversity and, above all, its impressive population of birds of prey.

The park's landscape is a mosaic of pine and oak forests, open meadows and rolling hills, creating the perfect habitat for wildlife. More than 200 bird species have been recorded here, including three of Europe's four vulture species—the Cinereous Vulture (Black Vulture), Griffon Vulture and the endangered Egyptian Vulture. Dadia is particularly famous for hosting the only breeding colony of Cinereous Vultures in the Balkans, making it one of the best places in Europe to observe these magnificent birds in their natural habitat.

Beyond its exceptional birdlife, the park is home to a remarkable variety of mammals, reptiles, butterflies and wild orchids, making it a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and photographers. Guided excursions depart from the Dadia Visitor Centre, where visitors can learn about the park before joining organised tours to the famous raptor observation hide, offering an unforgettable opportunity to watch vultures and other birds of prey at close range.

Located 68 km (about 50 minutes) from Alexandroupoli and 14 km (16 minutes) from Soufli, the park is easily accessible by road and ranks among the top things to do in Evros and one of the finest national forests in Greece.
