Olympus Marathon is an ultra-distance trail running event held annually on Mount Olympus, the mythical “Mount of the Gods”. The event is organized by the Olympus Marathon Non-Profit Organization based in Litochoro, Pieria. The route revives the pilgrimage of ancient Greeks to Mount Olympus, who used to ascend the mountain every year to pay tribute to Zeus. The 71-kilometer race starts the last Sanday of June from the Archaeological site of Dion at midnight. The route climbs 2,800+ meters in total, with its highest point being right below the peak of “Zeus” throne, providing breathtaking views of the region. This renowned international mountain running event is the perfect opportunity for the athletes to challenge themselves, and compete in one of the most difficult and renowned mountain running events in the world.
