The Episkopeio (Piskopio) is a village of Syros, located in the center of the island in a distance only 4.5 kilometers from the capital Ermoupolis.

It is has one of the richest sources of trees on the island and became a holiday settlement where Syrian merchants and captains built their villas. You can admire the church of Panagia of Episkopiani or Protothroni, which according to tradition was the first metropolis of Syros. Here was the residence of the Bishop (episkopos) who gave it's name to the village. Today, only the ruins of this 15th century building remain.

There in Episkopeio you will find the "Red House", a  house painted red that fuses one of the most famous legends in Syros - it is even said that inspired Manolis Karagatsis to write the novel "The Great Chimera" where he tells this story. The most daring visiting Episkopeio claim that if one approaches the red house, he will hear crying, shouts and laughter from his former inhabitants.
