Stavros
Stavros is the capital of Donoussa island and where the harbor lies. Built amphitheatrically in a sheltered bay on the southwestern side of Donoussa, it enchants visitors at first sight. It is an authentic Cycladic village with whitewashed houses and paved alleys, which start from the sea and climb to the highest point of the surrounding hills. The small settlement is where the heart of the island beats and the place where all shops, bars, hotels, studios and rooms to rent are. Also, the place where most of the tavernas are located, all with delicious seafood and local food.
Here you do not have to worry about ticking important must-see off of a to-do list. Apart from nice strolls in the promenade and through the alleys, you can enjoy amazing sunsets from the churches of Timios Stavros and Panagia, and that is about it. On their celebration day, September 14 and August 15 respectively, great festivals are organized in the village with the participation of locals and visitors. Next to the main harbor, there is a beautiful sandy beach with crystal-clear water. This is the first beach you see when you come to Donousa and probably one of the best port beaches in Greece. The beach was voted as one of the best eight beaches of 2018 by Forbes.
Stavros like Donousa itself, is a perfect summer getaway for travelers that enjoy remote and less crowded places. Life here is pretty simple – get up, walk to a beach, go for a swim, have an amazing meal and enjoy a drink watching the sunset. So, if you are looking for a relaxing vacation and enjoy simple things, this is a perfect place to visit.
