STASY

The Athens Metro serves the entire metropolitan area of Athens with 3 lines and 66 stations, including 5 major interchange stations: Syntagma, Omonia, Attiki, Monastiraki, and Piraeus.

 

Athens Metro Lines

Line 1 (Green Line): Piraeus – Kifissia
The city’s oldest line, operating since 1869. Stretching 25.6 km with 24 stations, it connects the Port of Piraeus with Kifissia, running mostly above ground. Interchanges: Line 2 at Attiki & Omonia, Line 3 at Monastiraki.

Line 2 (Red Line): Anthoupoli – Elliniko
Opened in 2000, mostly underground, with modern stations and trains. Interchanges at Attiki, Omonia, Syntagma, Monastiraki.

Line 3 (Blue Line): Piraeus Municipal Theater – Athens International Airport
Also opened in 2000, Line 3 connects Piraeus to the Airport. The latest extension (October 2022) added 3 new stations between Nikaia and Piraeus Municipal Theater. A new Line 4 (Alsos Veikou – Goudi) with 15 underground stations is currently under construction.

 

First and Last Train Departures

Line 1 (Green): From Piraeus 05:00–00:15 (last to Omonia 00:30). From Kifissia 05:00–00:15 (last to Omonia 00:30).

Line 2 (Red): From Anthoupoli 05:30–00:06 (weekdays), first train weekends 05:30. From Elliniko 05:30–00:03 (Sun–Thu) and until 01:40 (Fri & Sat).

Line 3 (Blue): From Piraeus Municipal Theater 05:30–23:59 (Sun–Thu), until 01:34 (Fri & Sat). Last train to the Airport 22:54. From Airport 06:10–23:34.

 

24-Hour Public Transport on Saturdays

From September 13, 2025, and every Saturday, Athens Metro (Lines 2 & 3), the Tram (Lines T6 & T7), and selected bus routes will operate 24 hours, improving mobility and offering safe, reliable connections across the city.

24-hour bus routes include:
221, 224, 421, 608, 709, 842, 049, A15, B11, B12, 040, 11, Χ93, Χ95, Χ96, Χ97

 

Athens Metro Connections:

  • Airport: Connection with the Suburban Railway, the Suburban Buses of East Attica and the International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos'
  • Piraeus Port: Connection with the National and the Suburban Railway and the ferries to the Aegean Islands
  • Larissa Station: Connection with the National and the Suburban Railway 
  • Neratziotissa: Connection with the Suburban Railway
  • Syntagma: Connection with Tram and the overnight bus Χ95 to the airport
  • Neos Kosmos: Connection with Tram.

 

Tickets:

  • Athens transportation system uses tickets valid in ALL Means of Public Transport
  • A fine is imposed on all Metro users not holding a valid deed of travel or refusing to produce such a deed upon request, which is equal to 60 times the price of the 90-min flat fare ticket
