Argyroupoli Springs
Argyroupoli, also known as Ancient Lappa is a quaint little village, situated 25 km southwest of Rethymnon. The village is perched 260 meters above sea level, between two rivers, Muselas and Petres. Among the highlights of the area, are the natural springs of Agia Dynami, the water of which once powered the watermills of the area that used to grind grain. In the past, there were 11 watermills, six of which during the Venetian occupation. In fact, you can still see remains of the watermills.
Argyroupoli springs also known as springs of Agia Dynami is a fabulous place in the prefecture of Rethymno. Water gushes from the ground in a lush green environment and forms cisterns and small waterfalls running throughout, shaded by ancient plane trees. The springs are very popular attracting thousands of visitors every year.
It is a place where you can enjoy the tranquility of the landscape and dine at one of the many tavernas serving delicious traditional Greek food. You can even try out your fishing skills, by fishing your own trout and have it grilled, to order. Carved inside a rock, you will find the chapel of Agia Dynami, known for its miraculous water that flows through the chapel. The wider area is rich in history with lots of ancient sites and is worth taking a walk around, to enjoy it.
