Monastery of Saint Taxiarches in Glossa
The monastery of Agios Taxiarhis is situated in a pine-covered area of Glossa (on the road to Perivoli beach) and overlooks the north side of the island.
Today it is deserted, but it was part of the monastery of Xeropotamos on Mount Athos and had many monks.
The monastery seems to have been built in 1672 and renovated during the Ottoman domination.
In the courtyard of the monastery are preserved remnants of an early Christian temple of AD 672.
A ossuary is preserved outside the perimeter, while south of the monastery lies a fountain with plenty of water.
