Pollonia

Pollonia is a charming friendly-family village on the north-east corner of Milos Island. The village hosts the second port of the island and offers a regular boat service to the neighboring island of Kimolos. Polllonia has a lovely large sandy beach, waterfront tavernas and cute Cycladic white-washed cube houses with colorful bougainvillea. The beach is lined with trees and is perfect for families. If you are looking for more choices, the village is close to all beaches of the northern side.

Despite being small, there are still quite a few awesome things to do. Situated on the northern peninsula of Pollonia is the quaint chapel of Agios Nikolaos (St. Nicholas). The small chapel offers great photo opportunities and enjoys nice views of the bay and the neighboring island of Kimolos. But Pollonia features not one but two picturesque churches. On the southern peninsula near the harbor is the church of Agia Paraskevi. The white and blue church is centered in a large courtyard with panoramic views of the coastline. Besides that, from Pollonia you can enjoy a romantic sunset watching the sun color the sky and set behind the rock of Kalogeros. But there are also many nearby attractions to Pollonia. Along the northern coastline, is the unique Papafragas beach and the lunar landscape of Sarakiniko beach. On the main road to Pollonia there are the ruins of the ancient city of Fylakopi, which was one of the most important settlements in the Aegean and on the northwest side of the village, the picturesque peninsula of Pelekouda where it is believed that once stood the ancient temple of Apollo.

Pollonia isn’t a big as Plaka or Adamas but there are plenty of accommodation options and a good choice of cafes, restaurants and tavernas. Reaching it is easy, either by car or bus and there is a large parking space some 100 meters away from the center. From the ferry port you can catch the Pollonia Kimolos ferry to Kimolos island, a short 25-minutes trip to the tiny volcanic island. The ferry port is also the starting point for the excursion boats that make daily cruises to Poliegos and Glaronisia islands and to Papafragas Cave. So, if you are looking for peace, good food and many beach and excursion options, Pollonia is the ideal destination for your holiday on Milos Island.
