Discover Argolida

Map: Argolida

Argolis is a county steeped in legend and history. It was the heart of Greece from 1600 to 1100 BC under the Mycenaeans. Now, traces of that ancient civilization lie scattered across the region, in the shape of citadels, sanctuaries, Mycenaean tombs and ancient theaters. Amongst the best-known sites is Epidaurus famous for the Sanctuary of Asclepios and the ancient theater, ancient Tiryns, and Mycenae, famous for the Tomb of Agamemnon and the Lion Gate. Equally important is the castle of Palamidi and the fortress island of Bourtzi at the entrance of the port of Nafplio. But Argolis is also blessed with a wide variety of lesser-known sites and many stunning beaches that all lie within a landscape of great natural beauty.

The picturesque seafront town of Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece, is a perfect holiday destination and a good base for exploring the surrounding countryside. Nafplio is a wonderful collection of paved alleys decorated with colorful flowers, neoclassical houses, historic churches, museums and many more sights to fill a week. It is a lovely place to explore with photo-perfect views around every corner and one of the most romantic places in Greece. When you will leave Nafplion, drive east to get to Porto Heli, make a stop in Hermioni and visit Kosta to enjoy Argolida’s mouth-watering cuisine and its fine wine. Argolis is full of pleasant surprises and a gateway to the Saronic Islands, Poros, Hydra and Spetses. It is the ideal destination, bringing past and present together in a seamlessly simple way.
