Menites Springs
Menites is a beautiful village built on Petalo Mountain, 200 meters above sea level. The village is famous for its natural springs gushing through the mouths of six marble lions as well as for the abundance of water and greenery. The springs are located in a small shady square near the church of Panagia Koumoulou which is believed to have been built on the site of an ancient temple. People in the past claimed that those springs are the ancient springs of the temple of Dionysus. And it may be so since recent excavations have brought to light the ruins of an ancient temple very close to the springs. The springs are the village’s major attraction and is worth making a stop to capture some photos and fill your bottle with fresh water. The water of the springs is not only refreshing for passers-by but also runs all the way to the villages of Mesa Choria and Livadi and irrigates the farms in the area.
