Dimosari or Nidri Waterfalls

The Dimossari or Nidri Waterfalls are located on the east coast of Lefkada, just a few kilometers away from the cosmopolitan town of Nydri. These waterfalls are only running from autumn to spring however they are spectacular after every heavy rain. There are two waterfalls; the first is the smallest, and the main waterfall at the end of the path is 12 meters high. At the bottom of the tall waterfall, a beautiful pool is formed, which is perfect for a refreshing dip into the pure water.

You can walk from Nydri to the falls which takes about an hour, but on a hot day there isn't much shade along the road, so make sure you do not go at noon and bring water to drink. The walk starts from the main street, and is well signposted. If you insist on driving there is a small car park approximately 500 meters from the falls, but spaces are limited. Then follows a little trek out to the waterfalls along the gorge of the Dimosaris torrent, which is a nice way to break the beach visits. The place is designed for a walk, with a paved path and small wooden bridges between plane trees. The walk is suitable for kids from age 5 upwards, as it is pretty straight forward incline to climb to get to the waterfall, but it is unsuitable for people with limited mobility. There is a handrail most of the way, as there are some parts where the stones are a bit slippery, and there a lot of steps.

Get there early (before 9.30am) before the place fills up with other people and wear sturdy shoes and not flip flops! At the foot of the waterfalls is a small taverna, which is nice for a rest and have some fresh juice. Dimosari waterfalls is a wonderful natural place to visit if you want to escape the sun and relax. Overall, we would say definitely worth going but try to avoid peak times to fully enjoy the place. Choose to visit after rain and you will not be disappointed!
