Nymfes Waterfalls
The Nymfes Waterfalls are situated just outside the village of Nymfes, a small mountain village on the slopes of Mount Pantokratoras, in Corfu. Well-hidden in a verdant area with oaks, plane trees, cypresses and holly trees, they are the largest waterfalls in Corfu and one of Corfu's main attractions. They pour from a height greater than 10 meters into a verdant ravine, and form a small natural pond. It is a fairytale place, related to the mythical Nymphs (fairies) who according to local legends bathed there in antiquity. The nymphs were inferior female divinities that were nature spirits, and lived near springs and waterfalls. Two more smaller waterfalls add to the scenery. A short trail leads from the village to the waterfalls. The path has a low degree of difficulty and is ideal for the whole family. It begins from the village, passes by the football pitch, and follows the rural dirt road for about one and a half kilometers. The best time to visit the waterfalls is in spring when there is abundant water. After May and especially in summer, there is not much water on the falls. The Nymfes Waterfalls are located in the northern part of Corfu, approximately 34,6 kilometers from Corfu Town (54 mins), and 22 kilometers from Paleokastritsa (43 mins).
