Drenia

Drenia is the largest of a complex of 6 small islands called Drenia or Gaidouronisia. The complex is named after the largest island. It is located just opposite Ouranoupolis, east of Ammouliani. The other islands of the complex are Feti, Penna or Sparmeno, Artemis or Elia, the islet of Night, Palamari and Pontikonisi where the only lighthouse of the complex is located. Small coves, sandy shores and turquoise waters compose a magical landscape. Drenia is a popular tourist destination for swimming, relaxation and day trips during summer. It is an ideal place for families with young children and for snorkeling as the area is rich in marine life and is home to many fish.

The islet of Drenia as well as the rest of the islets are uninhabited. In the past, residents of Ammouliani used to visit the islet of Drenia the day of Kathari Deftera (Clean Monday). The islet has now become a tourist destination and gathers crowds during the summer months. On the islet there is an organized beach with sunbeds and umbrellas as well as a restaraunt.

The island can only be visited by sea. Private boats can take you there or you can rent a boat from Ouranoupolis or Kamboudi without the need of a licence. There are also boats that make daily excursions from Ouranoupolis starting in front of the Tower. The trip lasts almost 15 minutes and you will be impressed by the wonderful color palette in all shades of green and blue.
