Kaltsonisi, also known as Kalkionisi or Chalkionisi, is a tiny, unspoiled islet in the Ionian Sea, located south of Paxos and north of Antipaxos, right next to Mongonisi Islet. The only structure on this secluded islet is the charming Church of Agios Spyridon, first built in 1686, according to historical records. The chapel was constructed by the first settlers from Velaniatika (originally from Souli) to house an icon of the Virgin Mary, which they brought with them. In 1750, the church underwent a renovation, preserving its sacred heritage.
A visit to Kaltsonisi offers a glimpse into the rich history and untouched beauty of the Ionian Islands, making it an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility, history, and breathtaking coastal scenery.
