Prasonisi
Prasonisi is a small uninhabited and barren island on the southern tip of the Greek island of Rhodes, the main island of the Dodecanese. The small island is connected to the mainland only though a narrow sandy strip during summer time transforming the island to a peninsula, but when winter comes and the water level gets higher, the narrow strip disappears under the sea and Prasonisi becomes an island again.
Here the Aegean Sea meets the Mediterranean, creating one of the most fascinating windsurfing and kitesurfing spots in Europe. Prasonisi is made up of two sandy coves and offers perfect wind and wave conditions for surfer enthusiasts. In the heart of summer, Prasonisi transforms into a surfer’s paradise. Surfers from all over the world converge on this heaven to test their skills and enjoy the crystal-clear waters. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced surfer, there are plenty of rental shops and schools offering lessons and equipment for all levels. Moreover, Prasonisi is a paradise for nature lovers, and those seeking a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
While Prasonisi Beach is undoubtedly the main attraction and a very nice place to relax, there are other places of interest to explore in the surrounding area. You can take a long walk to the southernmost tip of Prasonisi, where an abandoned lighthouse.is located. The lighthouse was built in 1890 by the French Company of Lighthouses and reconstructed in 1996. Today is the island’s only attraction and a place to enjoy great views. Below is a deep sea and sharp rocks, and on horizon on a clear day you can see the island of Karpathos. Opposite Prasonisi is located ancient Vroulia, one of the earliest ancient settlements ever found in Greece, where it is possible to admire an old mosaic tiled floor. Just a short drive away is the picturesque village of Kattavia where you can immerse yourself in the local culture, and traditional Greek cuisine.
To get to Prasonisi from the city of Rhodes, you have to cross the entire island and thus drive almost 92 km. However, the road is good and you will pass many interesting places along the way, including Faliraki, the Seven Springs, Tsambika beach and the beautiful town of Lndos. However, what will amaze you most in Prasonisi is the sunset. The sun reflects on the surface of the sea, which shines like it is made of gold, making this sunset the most beautiful on Rhodes. So, if you ever plan to travel to Rhodes Island, do not forget to visit Prasonisi. With its stunning scenery, thrilling water activities, and nearby attractions, it offers a complete holiday experience.
