Danilia Village

Danilia is a unique replica of a traditional Corfiot village. Farm houses, a square with a church, an old-fashioned coffee shop and a tavern, all create a unique feeling of stepping back in time. Danilia is a unique village with no residents as it serves as a theme park. The village recreates the Venetian and Corfian history and tradition. Hidden within the natural beauty of Corfu, the Danilia Village is definitely one of the most scenic and unspoilt villages of the island.

The stunningly beautiful traditional village of Danilia was almost destroyed by an earthquake in 1953, but in the 1970s, at the private initiative of the Boua family, the village was rebuilt as an open-air museum. The goal was to approach the atmosphere of the old city of Corfu by taking over the traditional village building styles and details. Since then, it is loved by locals and tourists who come to experience the magic vibe of this place.

It boasts two open-air squares, a graphic church, a traditional cafe, a large open-air taverna and an indoor taverna. Visit the Danilia folk art museum and see the typical utensils and tools that have been in use by the locals of the Ionian islands in the daily life for over 300 years. Stop by the cafe with its Corfian furniture, floors and all the hardware they were using in the past times for a refreshment or have a meal in the tavern. The village has hosted several movies notably for the James Bond film “For Your Eyes Only” back in 1981 and most recently for the filming of the smash hit ITV series “The Durrells”.

Danilia village is now part of the Grecotel and is used as a fairytale setting for weddings and private events organized exclusively by Grecotel. The village is located in central Corfu, 9 km from Corfu town. Walking through this place is an unforgettable lifetime experience for the visitors who can learn more about Corfu’s history and culture. The village is open daily from 10:00 to 22:00. Entry is free.
