Agios Ermolaos Island

Agios Ermolaos is located on a small rocky island that is separated from Skyros by a narrow strip of sea. On celebration day, a great feast is organized and lots of faithful go to the island by boat from the opposite harbor of Molos. On the way they sing softly verses dedicated to the Saint. The day before, women of all ages visit the church to clean its interior and courtyard so that the Saint can keep their children healthy next year. They whitewash the walls and adorn with flowers the icon of the Saint located on the wooden iconostasis. Agios Ermolaos is believed to be the doctor of children. The church celebrates on July 26 with all splendor.

According to mythology, Theseus died on the islet and Thetis tried to hide her son Achilles, so as not to fight in Troy.
