Petsos Bridge

Nestled along the scenic trail leading to the breathtaking Balta di Striga waterfalls, Petsos Bridge—also known in the Vlach language as Punte al Petsou—is a stunning example of traditional stone bridge architecture.

A Bridge with a Legacy

Built in 1880 at an elevation of 844 meters, this single-arched stone bridge was constructed to span the Megalo Rema (Vale Mare) stream, which flows into the Rasianiotis River, a tributary of the mighty Aoos River. The bridge was fully funded by the Petsos family, and in their honor, the locals named it after them.

Restoration and Preservation

In 1967, a powerful earthquake caused significant damage to the bridge, but restoration efforts soon followed. Additional maintenance work was carried out in 2005, ensuring that today, the bridge remains in excellent condition and continues to stand as a remarkable historical landmark.

If you're visiting the Iliochori waterfalls, take a moment to admire Petsos Bridge, an architectural gem that blends seamlessly into the unspoiled natural beauty of Zagori.
